Singles & Rarities

Our first Single came out on Norway based Sad Gnome Records in July 2006, and featured Julia sucking on Simon’s gun, photographed in Keith Totp’s studio on Brick Lane in London. The same studio where Video Killed The Radio Star was recorded, incidentally. You can’t buy a copy of that from us because we’ve only got one and it’s in a frame and you CAN’T HAVE IT.

You can buy Vinyl and CD copies of the three singles we released on Weekender Records before the idea of a physical single became a silly one.

Julia, We Don’t Live In The ’60s, Single. Released on Weekender Records 2007. Vinyl 7″ and 3 Track CD single. Not a lot of people know that in order to shoot the video for ’60s we had to crowd source a bunch of people to have an ‘actual’ protest, as applying to film in a London park costs many many funds. Our protest signs were LEGENDARY. You can look at some of the choicest ones here

Sixteen single released on Weekender Records in 2007. Vinyl 7″ and 3 Track CD

Having borrowed the zimmer frame and wheelchair for the shoot from a care home, there was a very funny moment at London Victoria station, having finished for the day, where Julia was sitting in the chair waiting for the train, getting sympathetic looks from people, and then stood up, as though cured. It must have looked a bit startling…

America single, released on Weekender Records in 2008. Vinyl 7″ and 3 Track CD

I think this is the first time we ever had to hire costumes. It was also the first music video we ever shot in HD. Little known fact: you can hire ‘buckle straps’ to make your regular shoes look old-timey. Who knew?

 Other Oddities

The Recession Song, originally released February 2009. Double Dip Recession Re-released April 2012

This single features Mikey from Art Brut on drums and Nicky Biscuit from Nintendisco and The Video Club on backing vox and synth. We recorded it at Keith Totp’s new (then) studio on Dean Street in London’s Soho. We shot the video at simon’s childhood home, and it features Stuart Laws (comedy/ Turtle Canyon media) being a cool as fuck hipster remarkably well.
