To whom it may concern:

I work for the Hastings and St Leonards Excellence Cluster, as the Gifted and Talented project development manager. For a number of years we have been fortunate to have ‘The Indelicates’ rock band, specifically Julia and Simon, running special projects and workshops for us, working with large groups, twenty plus, of both primary and secondary students, often mixed age groups. The projects usually run for a whole day.

Julia and Simon have brought new and exciting ideas to the groups they have worked with. The content of the days has always been of the highest standard.

In a one day workshop, Julia and Simon help students to compose words and music for a piece they will rehearse and ultimately record. There is room for all instruments, voices and combinations. They have helped young people of varying abilities to develop the skills of thinking, communication, discussion, negotiation and decision making; encouraged personal initiative and collaborative work; helped to raise self motivation and self esteem.

Julia and Simon have excellent classroom management and teaching skills and are able to create an atmosphere buzzing with enthusiasm. They encourage students to work and think in different ways. School staff in music departments where they have worked have been delighted and impressed by the outcomes produced and the way they have worked with the young people. They have worked equally well in situations where there is no special equipment, such as holiday courses, working in a school hall.

Julia and Simon have been very generous in sharing their expertise and good practice with Excellence Cluster staff and school colleagues, and have helped young people learn new skills and develop confidence in their abilities.

I have no hesitation in recommending the Indelicates’ music workshops. They are excellent.
